What act of kindness can I do for you today?

I guess a lot of us will consider an act of kindness as the visible one or what we experience firsthand. Most of us will also expect it especially from those we already know. Yes, I believe expectations will really hurt us. Expectation is everybody’s mistake but it may also be a lesson.

We have experienced this: asked for help yet did not receive any or was just given a part of what we actually needed. Do not get disappointed. It is not anybody’s responsibility to accomplish the totality of what we asked for. Instead of blaming others and defining them as selfish (to name a few) or those that do not deserve anything from us, thank them.

Here are some of the reasons why we should thank those who did not help us or in our opinion, just helped us the smallest possible way:

  1. Without them being that unreachable to our expectation, we will never learn to do it our way.
  2. They have their own lives to attend to. They gave a part of their time to us. What they gave is priceless and saying Thank You is our brief act of kindness.
  3. What they did may be our reference on what we should and should not do if it is our turn to be in their shoes.
  4. There are other things we need to focus on. Do not spend too much time to be negative and let us change our perspective to be more positive.

What can you say about life?

Say something, I’m giving up on you
I’ll be the one if you want me to
Anywhere I would’ve followed you
Say something, I’m giving up on you

And I… am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I… will stumble and fall

I dedicate the above mentioned part of a known song (Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera) to all those who are currently confused, lost, or just tired. Not of love, but of life in general. Let this message be our motivation to look at the brighter side of a story, despite of how it is seen by the majority.

Yesterday, we celebrated the successful licensure examination of my cousin. One of the guests said during his speech, “I’m sure all of us here prayed for a dream.” In order to attain what we desire the most, hard work must be part of the plan. Unfortunately, failure, disappointment, or both must also be included.

There are times where we will find it easy to regain ourselves and be back on track. There are also times where over thinking will take place and will let us forget all of the hard work and achievements that we got along the way.

Say something. It is all right to accept flaws, weak points, and limitations. It is okay to admit that you are tired, hopeless, and hurt.

I’m giving up on you. Tell this to yourself then ask yourself, are you really giving up on you? Will you let yourself give up on all the things that you achieved? Will you let all those go to waste?

I am feeling so small. What you are experiencing now is normal. It is okay to say it, just do not let it be your final definition of yourself.

I know nothing at all. You know something. You gathered more along the way. Now, you know better because you know that after you stumble and fall, you will need to stand up and get back to work  with the better definition of you.
